Animal Notes

May 13: The animal continue to return, though at a bit of a slowed down rate, with the first White Crowned Sparrow May 13,  Hummingbird and Yellow Warbler May 11,  Ruby Crowned Kinglet April 29 and Ground Squirrel May 01, then the first Yellow Warbler May 11.   Past arrival dates include the first Chipmunk, the first butterfly (though i did find a wing a week earlier) and the first Red Napped Sapsucker April 21 while the first Junco was here April 22 and the first Dipper April 23. The first Fox Sparrows returned on April 20 while the first emergence of aquatic insects (stoneflies i think) was on April 19. The Robins returned right away after some clearing and are all over the place while the first Red Shafted Flickers arrived April 13.  There was a Mountain Bluebird in town but it took off- just wandering through, but then returned on April 16. The first mammals emerged on April 14 as the first Marmots have returned to the surface to find-- snow.  --The first change in Gothic animal status took place on the morning of March 20 as the first Robins set up territories in Gothic.  I did see what i think is a Redpoll (now gone).  I have been trying to get a loook at this flock of birds for a while and finally got a good observation and i do not think it could be anything else but that. ---The first time we had rain was May 02.
